Death is a very sensitive issue to most people and, indeed, can be hard to understand at times. Even harder to understand for me is the concept of one human taking the life of another, especially when the victim is an innocent child.
This poem is about a 2 year old boy who was sexually and physically abused and ultimately murdered. There was never enough evidence to convict the accused father. The mother was never arrested but while she had the time and the money, never even bother to have a funeral for her child.
The child was ultimately buried by the state and donations were taken to place a headstone. I still get utterly sick with grief every time I think of the whole episode and the amount of preventable abuse that goes on today. This was not an easy poem to write and is not an easy poem to share. Anyone who's ever stood on the other side of abuse will understand, I'm sure.

I was inspired to write this poem of prayer by the incidents that occurred on April 20th 1999 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Let us not forget this tragedy. Let us remember and learn from it, So that those who were murdered did not die in vain. And let us pray it never happens again.
An additional note Two days after this was written There was another school shooting. This time in Louisiana. It is time, America, to ask ourselves "Why?"
In memory of April 20, 1999 - Littleton, Colorado

How can a child deal with the abuse of a drunken father. Perhaps by writing poetry many years later ?
I experienced rape at the age of fourteen. Although I never could quite conceive of this as rape, until four years later. This date rape has not only caused a dramatic shift in my perspective in life, it has also spiritually challenged me to grow as a person. I am a lifelong learner, and find this to be a detour, not something that has scarred me
This poem I wrote about the tragedy in Colorado. It is dedicated the students of Columbine High School, victims and survivors, and their families. May God be with them all.
A Poem about Hopelessness. A homeless person on a street
This poem is about a relationship I recently went through. The only way I could actually see what I was going through was to write it down. I finally saw that things weren't right and I now have someone way better. If you read this and think that it sounds like you then please don't sit by and allow it to go on.
This is a poem about people that are wrongfully convicted. And sent to either jail or prison. Later finding out they are innocent.
It is my hope my poems may somehow reach an abuser and open their eyes. Child abuse needs to stop and I'm grateful for the chance to write this poem
This poem is written for all who have loved and lost. Love sometimes blinds our heart as well as our minds. Sometimes the cost of passion is death. As a nurse, the victims of AIDS confide to me that they were so much in love they didn't think about precautions. This poem hopes to prevent harsh judgements against those poor souls.
To the patients I have lost and to my friend - I will always be there for you.
