I knew deep in my heart that one day my husband's evil side would eventually tear us apart. From the first time we met, he was the picture perfect man for me - until his anger got the better of him. He was my dream - but as the years rolled by, I wasn't willing to pay the price for that dream. He gave me many years of happiness, and many years of hurt, but he also gave me the strength to be the woman I am today.

I was having a heated conversation with a friend of a different culture and race. Some things were said that shouldn't have been. I wanted to pour my thoughts out to him in words, but none came. Silently, the next night, I surrendered to my thoughts and came up with this. I hope he reads this someday.

Loch Voil is a remote loch in the highlands of Scotland - a place of incredible beauty, which my wife and I visit whenever we have a walking holiday in the highlands. We were there on a lovely day last October; my wife painted a water- colour of the scene whilst I brewed the tea, took photographs - and thought about poems. This poem is a cry to parents to help stop the violence in our schools. When I saw the news about the shootings at Columbine school I cried then I got mad. Another incidence of violence in our schools. We need to protect our most valuable resources, our children. I hope this poem will encourage people to help make our schools a safe place.

As I was sitting in my apartment alone, on the evening of May 11th, I found myself thinking about the situation going on with Kosovo and the Chinese. And, as with the best poetry, I found myself inspired to comment on the state of the world.

When a heart becomes broken or someone feels left out, I know from experience that it hurts. There is nothing that can be done or said to make the pain subside any sooner than it was meant to.

At the age of 15, many think that I am unable to communicate feelings of life or love because they think I am too young to understand it. But I've been there too. I've lost friends both male and female of many different races to the cruelty of those living in a small town. The third stanza is my way of trying to get my motto across. "The world's small enough - Stop The Hate!"

Door to Decision is a poem that questions our attitude toward the world in which we live. Will we continue to have the same devastating effect as our predecessors or make a decision to change.
