At times we may forget that soldiers are just people like everyone else. They laugh, they cry, they have sweethearts and mothers, birthdays and favorite cars - and they die.

Sometimes when we are celebrating victories we forget about those who made it possible, those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

When such tragic events occur such as the recent terroristic attack with such an incredible and unexpected loss of life, we are reminded to be thankful for every minute we have and for the blessings that have been bestowed on us.

Our Lady has seen many things; the poor, the oppressed, the "huddled masses yearning to breathe free." Now she has seen another sight … the desecration of her borders by evil.

How would she feel if she were real?

Everyone needs someone. Someone who will accept them, listen to them and let them know they are not alone. What of those who have no one?

They may wind up taking drastic measures.

There are so many people who cannot show emotions and feelings very easily. Many times they are misinterpreted as being cold or unfeeling and pay the consequences when, all the while, they just want to be open and expressive like everyone else.

They just can't.
