Alone in the darkness,
And so afraid -
Never knowing
The plans you've made;
Often you betray
My loving mother,
When my body,
Yours does smother.
Afraid to tell her
You've threatened me -
Life without Mama,
I'm afraid will be.
How much longer
Will this go on?
With that evil grin,
You call me Hon.
Mom seems happy
That you're our dad;
But what you do
Makes me so mad.
When I'm older
I'll make you pay
For those crimes
You commit today.

I was deeply touched by this poem with my mother as a single mother i'm sometimes afraid that if she were to marry someday that something like this might happen to me! but i hope that it never will but as i was reading this poem i felt everything you mentioned as it were happening to me. This poem really touches any person that this has happened to. For me it just brings back memories I'd like to forget but never will. I left my night tme nightmare, and I never looked back. This poem was so desperately and painfully beautiful. I know I have no real reason to say I relate with the woman in the poem (whether the character is the author, I'm not sure, but I do suspect), but i have gone through something distantly similar, and this poem brought me nearly to tears. Realising that this is one of the very best poems I've read here, one of the most moving, I know this was written so deeply. the emotions are virtually transported into me through the beautiful craftworkings of these words. I don't know if this poem is true, but if so I just want to say that I understand your pain. I myself was not a victim but my own father sexually abused both of my brothers and many other boys for many years before anyone came forward. My father is in prison now and will be for many years.
