How? by Tiffany
How do you say goodbye to the one who glowed
with the promises of your happiness?
How does hope fill you with dreams sweeter than one's you've ever seen,
only to leave you staring into denial's eyes?
How does pride step aside to let you feel what it fights against,
only to watch as you're eaten alive?
How do innocent kisses evolve into the salt-tasting tears
you begin to digest at night?
How do you let something as invisible as time
heal the gaping wound where your heart once was?
How do you ever believe in promises while deceit is promise's lover?
How do you get to the point of looking back
and appreciating the day when love laughed in your face a second time
and you can say "thank you" for it?
How do you ever learn to listen to the crying child in your heart again,
only to ask yourself these questions once more?
with the promises of your happiness?
This poem was written during a very trivial time shared between my ex-boyfriend and I after the breakup. Forgiveness is not one of my strong traits, and forgiving him for hurting me the way he did led me laying awake at nights asking myself how.
| I am also going through the same feelings as this poet and it hurts but forgiveness is the strongest cure and battle against hate and anger. She points out many things that many people experience when a broken heart happens. I hope that this person finds peace and returns to write more poems. The poem has really touched me. - Grace |
