Your Undertow by Brandi Schneider
I am not saying that I have all the answers
And I am not going to pretend too.
I just want to be able to pick up all of the broken pieces to my life.
I want to put them in order again
I have been in your blood far too long-
I want to feel what it is like to be alive again
And I no longer want to feel your undertow.
We have wasted so much time together
And suddenly my life feels like a river
It is taking me places I don't want to go
And I am seeing things I never wanted to see
I don't even recognize people I care for anymore
And there is this liar in my head
And it is telling me that I am going down with you.
I know I have to get back on my feet
Now.
Without you taking away any more of my life.
This is a poem that I wrote on a night a long time ago when nothing was right with my life. I figured if I could give up the memory of him and me than I would be at peace.
Easier said then done.
