Time Will Tell by Michael Anderson
I realize right now that I-
Don't know you very well.
I realize I never might,
Still, only time will tell.
But I know your smile makes life worthwhile,
Shines light unto my day.
And the times we have will never be matched-
By what few word I could say.
Often times you're on my mind,
Still, thoughts don't make wishes come true.
But if they did, all I'd think of is this,
A gentle kiss from you.
This is one of the first poems I ever wrote.
I was 16 and inscribed these words on a card sent with a dozen roses to a girl I barely knew but was deeply infatuated with. This is a short poem; words didn't come easy to me back then. But in looking back, 15 years later I don't think I could express the feelings I had any better.
And yes, I got a kiss out of it.
