A Child Died Today by Poet deVine
A child died today
and the whole world came to see
tuning in from coast to coast
glued to their TV.
Microphones and cameras
shoving in for the best bite.
And I, standing on the outside,
felt it wasnt right.
Dignity is what was missing
as the media scrambled around.
Compassion never had a chance
upon that killing ground.
A child died today
and madness reigned free.
How do I know you ask?
You see, that child was me.
and the whole world came to see
tuning in from coast to coast
glued to their TV.
Microphones and cameras
shoving in for the best bite.
And I, standing on the outside,
felt it wasnt right.
Dignity is what was missing
as the media scrambled around.
Compassion never had a chance
upon that killing ground.
A child died today
and madness reigned free.
How do I know you ask?
You see, that child was me.
This poem was written just days after the tragic shooting at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado. The callousness of the press angered me! I felt as though a part of me died that day and sobbing, I wrote this poem.
| this poem made me cry people will read this comment and think what a crazy emo . but no im me im an average girl who has friends and a loving family . i dont self harm and i dont always look depressed . but i hurt inside . all the time . i wear a fake smile everyday and when im supposed to laugh at something thats meant to be funny i try my hardest to laugh. i feel like ive died inside and all thats left is a living shell. nobody understands me x - nicky | |
